Funding Application Support -

If you are planning on submitting a funding application here are some tips

  1. Know the criteria:
    • Different applications will have different criteria and policies. Before applying make sure you have read and understood the criteria, guidelines and the information is up to date.
  2. Assume the committee know nothing about your group:
    • All applications are reviewed by a committee. There will be a variety of knowledge in terms of what they know about different groups. It is therefore important that you write your application as if no one knows anything about your group. For example, you may require a specialist piece of equipment. In your application you should explain what the specialist equipment is and how it is vital for your regular activity to go ahead, as this may not immediately be obvious to those unfamiliar with your activities.
  3. Ask for the right amount of funding
    • Provide a clear breakdown of how you will spend the money if your application is successful.  We advise that you attach this as a excel file.
  4. Demonstrate why you should receive funding and how it will be used
    • There will be multiple applications submitted, and it is important to make yours stand out.  You will need to explicitly state why you should be awarded funding, and how it would benefit your group.
  5. Check your application before you submit
    • Read through your application before submitting it. Check that it makes sense, and that the information is accurate.

Best of luck with your applications!

ADF APPLICATION EXAMPLE - (please note this example does not replicate the actual ADF application form)

Club or Society Name: Ferret Fanciers

Purpose of Application: New or Growing activity

Amount you are applying for: £200

Please explain how receiving this funding would impact your CSP

We are applying to the Activity Development Fund as this funding would have such a positive impact on our CSP. We are Ferret Fanciers and whilst we always strive for success in supporting ferrets and their habitat, we underestimated how many people would be interested in joining our new group, and how many people would want to attend a key Ferret Event in London.

As a new society we want to provide all our members with key knowledge on how to look after ferrets and keep them safe. We have attempted to generate SGI via ticket and bake sales, and have managed to raise £200, which is a great achievement for a new society. We however need an additional £200 to attend the annual Ferret Festival where our 40 members (20 more members than expected) can purchase subsidised tickets from £10 to £5.00 (by 50%) to attend this festival and learn the tools and skills to looking after ferrets. Some of our new members will get the opportunity to see ferrets in real life as they have only ever seen them in movies and TV. We have completed a survey for members to show interest in this event We conducted a Survey to 40/40 members (100% response rate) 40/40 members have shown interest in attending this event (full survey results are in supporting information) - and we expect this event to sell out. In addition to this, the festival is in London – so members will meet at a central location in London. The ticket package we are hoping to purchase is good value for money; we have included a small summary of the ticket package, and the full breakdown is in supporting information.

Tickets Include:

Entrance to the event

Sessions:

  • Safety of Ferrets
  • Meet the Ferrets
  • How to raise ferret awareness
  • So, you think you know about Ferrets

Extras

  • 1 food token

To summarise, we are applying for ADF funding to help pay for subsidised tickets to this event. It will help build the knowledge of current members and we can use what we learn from this event into recruiting new members for next year. As we are a new group this event will help towards our core society aim bring people together to improve their understanding of Ferrets and keeping them safe.
