Club & Society Risk Ratings -
Every club and society is given a risk rating based on its core activities. This helps us determine the right level of support, health, and safety oversight.
There are 4 levels:
- High risk
- Medium risk
- Low risk
- Minimal risk
Risk ratings are reviewed or changed only in specific situations:
- A club/society is new.
- Core activity of a club/society changes.
- Core activity of a club/society is affected by additional regulations (e.g. regulation alteration on rugby concussion procedures).
- A club/society request a review.
- At the discretion of the H&S Committee.
How is the risk rating calculated?
We use a Risk Scoring Matrix made up of 15 criteria, each scored from 1 to 5. These criteria include:
- Injury Rate
- Severity of Injuries
- Physical Contact
- Training Requirement for Activity
- Working at Height
- Use of Electrical Equipment
- Use of Chemicals
- Use of Heavy Machinery
- Manual Handling
- Use of Specialist Equipment
- Outdoor Activity
- Use of Medical/Lab Supplies/Equipment
- Engagement with Under 18s in Activity
- Engagement with Vulnerable Individuals in Activity
- Engagement with Animals
What does my risk rating mean?
Each level of risk comes with different expectations for how you need to engage with the core risk assessment process:
- High risk – submit annually, requires expert approval
- Medium risk – submit annually
- Low risk – reconfirm annually, submit every 3 years
- Minimal risk – reconfirm annually
Take a look at our Core Activity Risk Assessment Article for more information on this.
What is my club/society’s risk rating?
